Alexandra Bardac (Romania)
ALEXANDRA BARDAC
Biography:
My name is Alexandra Bardac and I'm currently living in Bucharest, Romania. I am an up and coming contemporary jewellery designer while also studying at the University of Nottingham for my Masters in Architecture. My passion for making started during my Bachelor years, where we were always coupling our projects with hand made models made from a variety of materials: paper, plaster, timber, metal, recycled plastic. Further down the line I discovered the world of traditional goldsmiths and the unique modern hand crafted jewellery.
My signature style is contemporary, curvaceous and elegant. Each piece I design is made in my workshop using traditional techniques, yet still trying to instigate novelty in each piece. Trying to push the limits of what can be made from precious metals .
Collection Concept: CumulOnimbus
Natural disasters are more and more frequent as climate change is pushing the boundaries of survival of life on Earth. The collection is looking at the stages of loss of entity, belonging and the remains of memory of the objects, places and memories people lose in the case of natural disasters. The 7 stages show: Emergence , Skeleton , Snatch, Loss, Residue, Renew.
Emergence - The catastrophe starts , precious memories, objects, people are caught up in the turmoil
Skeleton - The tornado engulfs Its newfound belongings, grows in size and shows a gridded structure of chaos
Snatch - The fragility of things is shown as memories, places as we once new them become part of the cumul, the blue of the sky mixes with silver dust as a metaphor to object disintegration and destruction inside the structure.
Loss - Objects become chaos and chaos objects. There is no more differentiation. At this stage they are one, attaining a beauty of its own.
Residue - The shape of places and objects remain. However, just as a faded memory. A hollow to the once full entity.
Renew - The once place, object, memory trancends using the residue , remains of the destroyed core. The shape of it merges and forms a new beginning, from 2 cornered stones to 1 corner with a base that remembers the old shape.
Further on the collection is not just limited to transmitting the but wants to become and transcend in its own right. Start anew and evolve past its initial purpose. Necklace becoming bracelet, ring becoming pendant and so on, the pieces have no boundaries of use.
