Barbara von Taeuffenbach
Biography:
Barbara is born in Augsburg/Germany. After her goldsmith apprenticeship and the journeyman’s examination, she works freelance. In search of a way to bring colour into her mostly silver cast jewellery, she came to the enamel. That’s why she studied the basic knowledge at the „Akademie für Gestaltung und Design“ in Munich by Bettina Dittlmann. Since then, she has been „infected“ by enameling ! Barbara experiments and tries out a lot to find her own solutions. The work is constantly evolving. Enamel offers her endless possibilities of artistic expression, whether in colour, texture or haptics. She has her own studio in Munich. Enameling has become her favorite technique to communicate her works of art. Barbaras jewellery is on display in national and international galleries and exhibitions.
Artist Statement:
I work with colour because everything is colour…, everything has colour…
- Colours can be composed like music. They generate moods, strike up connections, attract one another, complement or, respectively ,enhance one another or repel one another mutually. These colour tones generate very personal associations and memories. The paints unfold different affects and intensities on the various shapes, surfaces and lines. The composition lies in the succession of paint, line, surface and structure, which generates a rhythm of its own and thus allows a constantly changing atmosphere to arise.
- The paints are mostly mixed by myself, in order to make my own color space visible in my work. I work with enamel powder onto silver, copper or tombac. After firing in the kiln, the enameled pieces are sanded again so that a unique chromaticity is yielded. In some cases, they are so extensively sanded off that a surface emerges that seems to be corroded. This results in new and unusual colour tones again and again.
