ALICE PROTOPOESCU
Designer biography:
Alice – Elena Protopopescu is a jewelry designer, graduate of Bucharest National University of Arts, Department Ceramic-Glass-Metal. Her work is particularly focused on drawing attention to the lack of nature in urban areas and the destructive impact of development on natural environments. She believes that jewelry is a powerful medium for conveying these ideas, and she uses her pieces to raise awareness of these issues.
Although Alice initially worked primarily with metal, she is always curious to learn something new. This curiosity led her to explore the possibilities of glass, and she has since become fascinated by the unique and unexpected effects of combining these two materials.
Collection concept:
Cladonia asahinae is a species of lichen that is commonly found in forested areas. This lichen plays an important role in the environment by serving as an indicator of air quality. It is very sensitive to air pollution, and its presence or absence can provide valuable information about the health of an ecosystem.
Additionally, Cladonia asahinae has been found to have antibacterial properties, making it a potential source of new antibiotics. However, like many other lichens, it is also vulnerable to environmental changes and habitat loss due to human activities such as deforestation and air pollution. Therefore, it is important to protect and conserve this species and its habitat.
