Isabella Pérez Barrón (Mexico)
ISABELLA PÉREZ BARRÓN
Designer biography:
Isabella was born and raised Mexican. This implies a peculiar situation in terms of the social dynamics of the countryside and the city. Her early life and learning were permeated by her family roots, from culture, food, traditions and issues in general. Later on, this same restlessness to continue discovering, has led her to pursue her interests, to go into studies and learning experiences which have sparked her curiosity and permeated her professional growth, starting with a degree in Interior Architecture at Centro University in CDMX, as well as different approaches to design and art. She has taken workshops and diploma courses focused on the manual processes of transformation of different materials, such as blown and fused glass, principles of modelling with clay and mud, processes of artisanal casting of experimental metals and lost wax, which led her to specialise in contemporary jewellery at the same university.
Collection concept:
Semillas is a collection of 5 different pieces, they are an ode to the lands we come from; the lands we inhabit, transit and which teach, nourish and transform us as a person. The pieces are designed to be constantly manipulated, as they are a reminder that we are all seeds and as such, we need the earth to germinate and flourish.
The collection represents the closing of cycles and reminds us that sometimes it is necessary to return to those lands and reconnect with them, to make contact with those which made us strong in order to gain momentum again and flourish. These lands are our support and sustenance. I washed, filtered and combined different substrates to turn them into a clay that represents the soils that have marked my life. With it, I wrapped the seeds and polished the earth until it hardened. The user must undo this sphere, come into contact with the earth to find the piece buried in it and thus remember that we are seeds.
