Collection concept: Sol Invictus- jewelries that move and change their shape when exposed to heat
The formal aesthetic of Sol Invictus (Latin for "eternal sun") is inspired by the process of photosynthesis, during which the light and heat of the sun causes plants to produce oxygen and their cell to develop, proliferate, move, and pigmentate.
When exposed to heat, the jewelries change their shape, thanks to their nitinol-made framework. I used nitinol that undergone specific thermal treatment, causing it to “remember” a desired shape and return to it when the temperature is warm enough. The texture and colors are inspired by structures and pigments found in real plants, applied to the objects by knitting colorful copper wires. The project emphasizes the relationship between the wearer and nature and the connection to the sun, while referencing light and shadow.
Materials: silver, nitinol, dyed copper wire
