Let’s meet the gallery artists selected to be part of the Romanian Jewellery Week 4.0:
Raluca Buzura (RO)
Presenting her new collection GOLDEN HOUR -a story of every sun chaser who wants to keep that magical moment as close as possible to his heart.
-based on real events-
G: - “Come quickly! Is about to get started, you will miss it out…”, he almost shouted while she was grabbing fast a cup of coffee and running out of the van.
The first golden line started to show up in between the coloured clouds and a warm light pink was covering their face. The air was still, the moment has stopped, silencing any sound as the colours were constantly changing.
R: - “Woww, it might have been the most beautiful I´ve ever seen! ...how stupid we are, the humankind, not to enjoy such a magic moment every day... and we have it for free...”
“And they sipped until the sun, as golden as syrupy as the bourbon, slipped into the sea.” ― Delia Owens
Born in a northern province of Romania, Raluca Buzura graduated the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in 2007 and after completing a master’s degree in ceramics in 2009, her main focus becomes contemporary jewellery design.
Her interest in jewellery comes from the fact that this area has not been given much attention as frequently people see it only as an overplus brought to the human body, that has a value depending only on the material used. Therefore, it was a challenge to change viewer’s angle and to reveal an alternative: that jewellery can be considered a work of art, having an artistic understanding, concept and message that can cover a wide range of fields.
With an experience in ceramic jewelry for over 12 years, her most representative artistic activity include: “AUTOR" - Contemporary Jewelry Fair, Bucharest, Romania (2009-2023), personal exhibition “IRREVERSIBLE”- Popeye Loves Olive Gallery, Athens, Greece (2016), “LOOT: MAD ABOUT JEWELRY” - Museum of Art and Design, New York (2017), ”COLLECTIVA MEETING” International Exhibition, Collectiva Gallery, Porto, Portugal (2018), “MateriaMetamorphosis” International Exhibition, Creativity Oggetti Gallery, Torino, Italy (2018) , SCHMUCK - Munich Jewellery Week, Germany (2019), BIJOUX! West Palm Beach, USA (2020) and a collaboration with the Spanish porcelain brand Lladró.
DOLLY BOUCOYANNIS – GREECE
Presenting a selection from the Sand & Stars and Byzantine Collection.
Dolly Boucoyannis was born in Athens, Greece, studied Jewellery Design in Great Britain, Gemology in the United States of America and Goldsmithing Techniques in Florence, before returning to her home city, Athens. She won the De Beers Diamonds International Award for the use of moving diamonds.
Traditional Greek elements from various historical periods, combined with the knowledge she acquired on her travels, are the inspiration for the creation of her unique artwork.
Her core aspiration throughout her career has been to create personalised jewellery with no expiry date, handmade with an unexpected and subversive combination of carefully chosen materials, free from value restrictions.
AUSRA BANKAUSKAITE -USA
Ausra Bankauskaite is Lithuanian born, New York-based jewellery artist. A few years after completing her studies in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing at Vilnius Academy of Arts, she moved to New York in 2010. Since then, she has worked for various designers and artist studios in New York and has participated in group exhibitions in Canada, Portugal, Lithuania, USA. Throughout this time, Ausra has continued working on her studio brand “aka jewellery” that officially launched in 2017.
Ausra Bankauskaite began creating contemporary pieces that bridged the worlds of art objects and jewellery based on two concepts: structure (the arrangement of and relations between the parts or elements of something complex) and functionality (the quality of being suited to serve a purpose well) which combine to create minimal aesthetic forms. Essential to Ausra’s work is the idea of harmony with the body: the jewellery must not disturb the line of the human form, instead of working with this base to enhance and extend its aesthetic lines.
The most minimal details have a maximum function. The result is an immaculate, non-iterative design that functions as an object when not worn, like a small architectural sculpture.
MARIA PSARIANOU – GREECE
Maria Psarianou was born and continues to reside in Thessaloniki, a city known for its rich cultural heritage.
