Designer biography:

Stefan Mocanu is an emerging Romanian designer based in the UK, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art’s BA prestigious program in Silversmithing and Jewellery. His work uniquely blends traditional making and modern techniques, with a focus on the interaction between light and materials, form and colour. Stefan’s creative ethos is driven by a fascination with the uncharted and the potential of the future, featuring a series of speculative creations reaching beyond the stars. Through his work, he aims to provide a glimpse of what wonders could be achieved by challenging the boundaries of conventional craftsmanship and inviting viewers to imagine the vast possibilities that lie ahead.

Collection concept:

The “Hidden Knowledge” collection, inspired by the ambitious journey of Voyager 1's "Golden Record", blends time-honoured craftsmanship with contemporary methods like complex press forming and laser welding. Crafted from titanium and 3D printed biodegradable materials, each piece dances with light, weaving tales of distant realms through vibrant colours, intricate forms, and compelling patterns. This collection invites contemplation of cosmic wonders, encouraging viewers to reflect on humanity's small yet significant place on our ‘pale blue dot’, the possibility of interstellar connections, and the intertwined emergence of life across the universe.
