Designer biography:
DANIELA CĂȚOI is a Bucharest-based Romanian porcelain jewelry designer.
She has an artistic education, holding a Bachelor's degree (2010) and a Master's degree (2013) in Graphics from the Bucharest National University of Arts (Romania).
Daniela's works mainly focus on nature, with a concentration on the small, often unnoticed details of natural elements, structures, and textures. Her works are entirely handmade from porcelain, combined with pigments, lusters, and colloidal gold. The creation process is fully supported by serious photographic documentation or a sensitive, personal experience.
Her main focus is on studying and developing new forms of contemporary porcelain jewelry using themes from the fascinating surrounding world.
In each collection / work there is a compromise between the narrative needs and the wearability of the jewel with some exceptions where inspiration and expressive needs take over. The lost wax micro sculpture is the chosen technique declined in silver, bronze and gold; these are accompanied by epoxy resin.
Awarded at Artistar Jewels in 2019, she also exhibited during the last three editions of the Romanian Jewelry Week in Bucharest, at Autor Fair, in Madrid and in the 1st international meeting of contemporary jewelry in Simancas.
In 2022 she was invited to exhibit in Milan during Salone del mobile, at the Baltimore jewelry center and at SNAG conference 2022 - Adorned spaces, Providence. From September at the 6th Biennial of Contemporary Jewelry at the National Museum of Arts in Lithuania, in Bucharest for Romanian Jewelry week 3.0 and was selected for Tincallab challenge 2022 at Tincal lab, Porto (Portugal) closing the year in London for Cluster Fair. Proud to be part of REVOLUTION - Vision of woman life freedom, virtual exhibition organized by SNAG Metalsmith and two Iranian artists that live in the USA to give a contribution to Iranian protests.
Collection concept:
Throughout my life, I've struggled with an inner conflict between the obvious beauty of nature and the hidden beauty that I discovered mostly during childhood. Nature's Hidden Beauties Collection is an artistic expression that was born from my personal experience of insect phobia. Being acutely aware that my time spent in nature has marked me, I dedicated myself to studying the intricate details of the forms that once troubled my perception of beauty. This journey led me to the discovery of the fascinating complexity of insects and ultimately served as a necessary step in my personal healing process.
All of the pieces are crafted entirely by hand from porcelain and finished with pigments, lusters, and colloidal gold. Each piece is also accessorized with metal elements.
