Designer biography:
I’m a Portuguese designer for more than 25 years, with transversal experience in product design, environment design and communication.
Jewellery has been a passion since my youth. I started by making my own accessories out of wire, beads, feathers and plastic cars.
I was trained at Contacto Directo Jewellery School, and graduated in Industrial Design, in Lisbon. Since then, my life has always been linked to design and creativity.
I am currently fully dedicated to my own jewellery brand, in Claudia Afonso Studio Gallery in Cascais. It’s from here that my jewellery reaches the world.
Trough jewellery I express my creative freedom. My work is deeply related to the sea life, and by the observation of nature, art and its meanings I manage to absorb the feeling of peace and connection that are reflected in my work, creating undulated organic forms with a unique design.
I use traditional techniques to create my work, being lost wax casting my favourite one. My jewels are carefully handcrafted through wax modelling that allows me spontaneity and sculptural freedom.
I understand my mission in jewellery as a contribution to celebrate life, individuality and creativity.
Collection concept:
My collection takes us to the beauty of the undulating movements of seaweed. I like to observe them and absorb the feelings of peace and fluidity. I believe that through my collection I perpetuate those feelings.
My jewellery crystallises these fluid and free movements of seaweed.
Rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings celebrate this both fragile and powerful life. Each jewel is created and sculpted in wax and then cast in sterling silver.
