Biography:
Ani Flys, born in the USA, studied Fine Arts at Tyler School of Arts (Philadelphia, PA) majoring in sculpture. She moved to Madrid, Spain where she presently resides. She studied jewelry making at the Lalabeyou School in Madrid and often participates in shows. Her work is characterized by the use of real egg shells (from unendangered species) reinforced with resin for jewelry use. The interest in using eggs was born from the Ukrainian pysanky tradition, part of her father’s heritage.
Collection Concept:
In the present collections, the egg shell prevails over other materials used. The artist follows two main venues: the broken shell and the transformed one into a different entity. The first suggests a whole spectrum of emotions deriving from this broken container of life: hope, freedom, or disaster and failure. The second offers an element of surprise, of displacement and of transformation of a common egg. It challenges one in how is it perceived; lightweight, heavy, fragile or solid?
