CORINA CUBICI
Biography:
I walked road in art and design from early years . Learning , working and finding the things I resonate with was very important for me . Once I found a nice to focus my attention on , that is when I feel I can be creative and unique with what I make . Studying historical dress , I relate it in the back of my mind constantly with my Romanian nationality . It is a combination of love for a way of dress that gives a notion of belonging , of pride for something that is tied to the people of the past that also made the things I draw inspiration from and a wish to educate people and show them that there is a future in the style and way it is made . One day I hope for what I make now to be considered part of the cultural treasure a group of people has given to the world .
Collection Concept:
In wide range of jewelry found in romanian dress , my focus fell on a certain piece . ,,Paftale" or the pafta . An element worn for the most part by women with variations for men as well . An element of oriental origin that we have taken in and gave a special meaning and value . The use and way it is worn will forever be clear . All I do is to try and work them and make them in a way that represents me today . The symbols and meanings of the older pieces are not lost on me . The people that made these special pieces in the past had a way of relating to the elements and symbols represented . I have my way today . They are all the same elements found in nature that they always were , just the method of showing them today in my work is different . Deep down what I wish to accomplish is a bridge between the old world , what they did and what they represented into a modern time with just as much importance and significance to the people that wear them today.
