JI YOUNG KIM
Biography:
We live only by looking at the front of the moon, but we still live under the illusion that we are looking at the back of the moon also. Since there are instances when we cannot see or talk about what is important in life, Ji Young Kim thinks there will be many aspects in our lives alike the back of the moon. It is her main aim to formatively dissect these aspects one by one and make them seen visually. She created her own way of combining traditional metal craft techniques and industrialized modern techniques to make contemporary jewelry and objects
Collection Concept: BETWEEN LINES
“Between Lines,” lines become facets, and the facets sometimes become lines and hide behind them. The work looks like a single line, but there are small moving pieces arranged in it. I had a repetitive metal work process where countless square pieces are cut and resoldered; however, these changes are not easily noticeable, allowing the hidden pieces to be revealed again and then hidden again. A small touch is enough to reveal the hidden side of a line, as in our normal everyday lives. Then the object begins to communicate with people.
