Biography:

Suzan Artezian F - Founder of Suzan Studio, from Netherlands. I studied Fashion Design at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, Netherlands and also Jewelery Design and Goldsmithing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. From a young age I have been in contact with art, architecture and fashion design. My aunt was a fashion designer and all her life was involved with fabric, colors and patterns. My aunt's studio was a large playground where you could tinker with the leftover fabrics. I could be found there every afternoon. My father is an interior designer and through him I was able to get acquainted with shapes, colours, materials and processing them. I see the world as a large painting. “My Persian roots give me a poetic view of the world and I can see an illustration of everything.” I get inspiration from all kinds of sources, Western art, nature, Persian art and carpets and the colors and patterns that are woven into them. The studies I have done have helped me to further develop my talents. I mainly work on conceptual and contemporary jewelery and experiment with different materials. Lately I have mainly been involved with tufting, embroidery, knitting and crochet. I am mainly inspired by Persian carpets. There are many birds and flowers in it.“The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.”

Collection Concept:

To escape the bitter, hard, surreal days of Covid-19, I immersed myself in the past, so as not to feel the passage of time. I calmed myself by thinking about my colorful childhood. The days when I ran with my little feet on the carpets of my grandmother's house. A house whose identity was based on hand-woven carpets. Carpets woven with love. That is when I started building this Collection. At the beginning of this series, I brought my childhood old memories in this bitter days. And in doing so, I cured my fears and stress. I lived for months with each of these pieces, the pattern’s, the weave, the type and number of knots, the dye and tasted the good taste of childhood. I have breathed new life into the dusty memories of my childhood by attributing a different kind of use to the patterns of the Persian rug. The past beats inside me like a second heart. There was no government that could put a concrete wall between me and my memories, no 1,5 meters distance etc. I could carefree recall and embrace my good memories.
