Born in a small city of China, Hankunyu Wei started her metalsmithing life in Savannah College of Art and Design, then graduated from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She is a contemporary artist with a strong curiosity, and her exploration of the field of metalsmithing and installation art is self-driven. She is obsessed with digging the dark side of ordinary life, purifying the moments that are taken for granted and exploring their essence in the way of abstraction. Believed that the collision between different materials can stimulate the vitality of the work and the imagination and inspiration of creation, she has maximized the plasticity of materials through repeated attempts.
Collection concept:
When the lock is hidden, the key becomes a connection between illusion and reality. When its role and function are blurred with the change of the key itself, the unknown completes the imagination. The curiosity and conjecture behind the key accumulate and expand, and when it is on the verge of some critical point, the key and the fantasy behind it collage a disorderly and ambiguous space. When the key touches the skin, the self-choice of belonging is completed. The key takes the form of a pathway, in approaching some purpose or result, as the dimension of all things.
