Noga Weiss - Global Design Graduate Show Award
Noga Weiss (Israel)
Designer biography:
Graduated in 2022 from the Jewelry and Fashion Department, Bezalel Academy of Art and Design Jerusalem. My personal experiences as a women and a mother and my view on reality are my starting point for my creation in this world. I create in metal, textiles and different materials, and fascinated to discover the meeting points and the relationships between the materials. In 2022 I was participated at the annual graduate exhibition of MARZEE Gallery, in Nijmegen, Holland. I participated in the annual Global Design Graduate Show competition of ARTS THREAD in collaboration with GUCCI and was selected to be among its finalists. Later this year I also exhibited at the Israeli biennale for contemporary jewelry. And in 2023 my project was presented on the MYDAYBYDAY gallery's website.
Collection concept:
Over the years, humanity has disconnected from the natural rhythm of the universe. The circular motion of nature, the human life cycle, and their parallelism led me to engage with tubers. Both materials are buried beneath the ground – while one is considered eternal and a safe investment, the other is deemed temporary and worthless. With deep observation, the opposite is true . Inspired by personal stories I have written, the line of jewelry I created combines the two materials and examines the substantive and symbolic value of the elements in the perception of a fleeting moment - the incarnation of the Potato as an analogy to a human life
Materials: pure gold, recycled gold from the jewelry box, copper, potatoes, plastic nets.
