Designer biography:

Yaning Liu, born in 2001, is an artist, jeweller, and object remaker. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in arts and Crafts from Beijing Union University, focusing on the innovation and practice of intangible cultural heritage crafts. In 2024, he completed his master’s degree in Jewellery and Metal at the Royal College of Art.

Yaning's designs explore the unstable relationships between objects, individuals, and communities, using everyday objects as his language. His recent research and interests are centred on reconstructing the identity, emotions, and functionality of everyday objects. By deeply integrating material culture studies, he aims to create a material-based space.

Collection concept:

The Emergence of Jewellery -

The emergence of objects reflects human consciousness, behaviour, and social context. However, we often perceive them merely as tools, attempting to control and predict their forms and functions.

When I examine interactions from an equal perspective, I find that objects possess their own identities and self-awareness. By combining objects' functionality with the intrinsic value and personal significance of jewellery, these objects acquire human-like identities and abilities. These newly emerged objects can become wearers of jewellery, connectors within a community, and even entities capable of choosing their own forms.
