Designer biography:
,,If you find something you love doing, you will do it without feeling hungry, thirsty and time will fly by you". At some time in my childhood my mother said that and it stuck with me. I began like most did, in an art school. Going through subjects, mediums and techniques. I was drawn to the colours in the field of painting. The vibrant combinations, the textures and shine of clours was what I enjoyed. At art university I changed directions, going on the rought of fashion design. There I came to learn of all the small and incredible facets of the fashion world. I guess my desire to learn fashion design was driven in part by self need. Even before I enjoyed collecting jewelry, the stones incorporated in the pieces were also important for me. I wanted to create fashion that I felt good in and later jewelry pieces that had the stones and the designs I wisht for. In my first year, I found the contemporary jewelry classes at Assamblage. That was in 2013. It has been a decade since I took my first jewelry class and in my head I am still guided by my mothers words when I was young. With art, fashion and jewelry, I think I am lucky to enjoy doing so meany things with that feeling of peace and love that gives me my own world to live in for a short time.
Collection concept:
Over time, like most people that create contemporary jewelry, I tried makeing most tipes of pieces, I studied different techniques and tried to find my own style. At the end of the day I began to study and create jewelry to bring to life an expresion of what I wished too see in the world. Three-four years ago I became more and more interested in jewelry pieces that have cultural and spiritual importance to different cultures. Naturally I was also looking at the pieces of jewelry in traditional romanian dress. One thing that was hard to find were the ,,paftale". You often see them on romanian tradition dress for wommen. This element came too us thanks to the ottoman empire, first as part of the official court dress for men and later, giving it a twist that made the pieces more representative of romanian spirit and culture they became an exclusively part of the womens dress. I wanted to make a pair of ,,paftale" for me. Not to copy older designs and styles. I wanted a pair, or more, that wold represent me. Starting with the way in wich I hammer and mold the metal, the stones I use and the combinations of colours from the metal and the cristals take the pieces on a journey from the late medieval period to art nouveau. The stones, the crystals and the natural materials are more that ever the main point on most of the pieces. The shine of a stone can be mixed with the natural texture of a lotus bulb or the natural beauty of mother of pearl with the cultured pearls hath formed on is framed by the hammered metal. I would say, the thread that unites all my work is the combination of natural elements and the molding and construction of metal I do by hand.
